Installation
This product may only be installed by trained and qualified personnel in accordance with the specified installation guidelines. When installing in buildings with increased fire protection requirements (e.g., stairwells, escape routes), the installation company or qualified personnel must ensure compliance with the specific requirements under state building regulations.
This manual must be read carefully and followed before commissioning.
Warranty and Guarantee
Warranty and guarantee claims can only be made if the device has been used as intended and all technical specifications and applicable technical regulations have been followed.
Intended Use
The Lobaro Wireless M-Bus Gateway V4 is designed to forward data from compatible metering devices with a wireless interface via NB-IoT, LTE-M cellular, DECT-NR+, or alternatively LoRaWAN. The gateway is intended exclusively for this purpose.
Safety Instructions for Variants
The product is available in different versions regarding the power supply. The general and variant-specific safety instructions must be strictly observed.
LOB-GW4-WMBUS
Standard version with 38 Ah lithium-metal battery pack + supercapacitor.
- Protection class: III according to EN 61140
- Protection rating: IP67 according to EN 60529
- Temperature range: -20°C to 65°C, max. 95% RH (non-condensing)
- Approved battery (3.6V):

Battery Safety Information
This device contains an internal, replaceable 3.6V lithium battery (Li-SOCl2), which is subject to transport restrictions. Transport regulations for hazardous material class 9A apply. The battery must be disconnected from the device via the connector during transport. All current hazardous material regulations must be observed. Certificates for approved batteries are available upon request.

Replacing Lithium Batteries
- Explosion hazard if batteries are replaced incorrectly!

Version with external 230V power supply.

- Cable gland must face downward after installation

Mains Voltage Safety Information
Risk of fatal electric shock due to mains voltage! After opening the enclosure, components carrying hazardous mains voltage may become accessible.
Warning: No disconnecting device present – an easily accessible two-pole (L, N) disconnecting device with a contact distance of at least 3 mm is required in the electrical system.
- Only trained electrical personnel may perform interventions in compliance with electrical safety regulations.
- The gateway must always be disconnected from the mains before any work is carried out.
- Personnel must be adequately trained in hazard prevention and maintenance procedures.
230V Connection

- Open terminal clamps.
- Connect the PE, N, and L conductors as shown.

Version with external 12V power supply via 230V plug-in adapter.

This product falls under UN 3091 (Lithium-metal batteries in or with equipment), but complies with Special Provision 188, exempting it from hazardous material classification and allowing shipment with the adjacent marking!

Commissioning
For commissioning with cellular use, a suitable and activated SIM card must be inserted into the slot (2) in every variant.
Pressing the reset button (4) restarts all variants and initiates an initial connection to the backend via LoRaWAN or cellular network, depending on the configuration.
The SD card holder (3) is generally not used in this product and must remain empty!
Opening the Housing
Open the housing using a flathead screwdriver:
LOB-GW4-WMBUS Variant
The battery cable must be plugged into the PCB connector (a).
LOB-GW4-WMBUS-230V Variant
Guide the power supply cable through the locking nut and PG16 cable gland (a).
Connect the cable cores to the terminal block (b), ensuring correct polarity.
Screw the locking nut onto the cable gland.
LOB-GW4-WMBUS-12V Variant
Insert the included plug-in power supply into the device's DC socket (a) and connect the other end of the 12V power supply to a household socket.
LOB-GW4-WMBUS-SUN Variant
Press the reset button (a).
The device is otherwise already operational.

- The XH connector beside the solar addon should not be used!
To start up the device, pressing the reset button (a) is required. Otherwise, the device is already operational.
Wall Mounting Without a Mounting Bracket
Secure the housing to the wall using at least two suitable wall plugs (holding force min. 1 kg) and screws.
Check the mounting for sufficient hold.
Wall Mounting With a Mounting Bracket
Secure the mounting bracket to the wall using at least two suitable wall plugs (holding force min. 1 kg) and screws.
Check the mounting for sufficient hold.
Slide the gateway from the top onto the bracket.
If the mounting bracket is used, the gateway can be released using the included tool.
Insert the tool into the groove on the bottom side and push it up against the housing wall.
Then gently pull the device upwards to remove it from the wall.
Pole Mounting
The pole mounting brackets (1) are attached to the gateway using screws and nuts (2).
Then, the hose clamps (3) are fed through the mounting slots and tightened securely around a suitable pole using a flathead screwdriver.
The following additional components are required for pole mounting:
- 2x MH 122: Stainless steel V2A pole mount, uncoated
- 4x BSF MH 1: Screw M4x16 + Nut M4
- 2x 8000194: 1x Stainless steel hose clamp, clamping range 60-170mm, V2A
The device label must face downward.
Closing the Housing
Close the housing manually.
Additionally, the cover can be secured using M3 pan head screws.
