433 MHz Configuration

The 433 MHz Add-On adds a second radio (Semtech SX1261) to the Gateway V4 for receiving wireless M-Bus and Sensus RF telegrams in the 433 MHz band. The main radio of the gateway continues to receive 868 MHz telegrams.

Compatible product: Gateway V4 + 433 MHz

Firmware variant: hw4.altphy since v0.3.7

Supported Protocols at 433 MHz

  • Wireless M-Bus, OMS Annex O, PHY_B (433 MHz), meter to gateway direction only
  • Sensus RF Bubble UP 433 MHz (Xylem Inc.)

Configuration Parameters

In addition to the GW4 configuration parameters the add-on has the following specific parameters:

433 MHz Reading (Alternative PHY)

KeyTypeDefaultDescription
altPhyStringBwM-Bus PHY used on the add-on radio. B = 433 MHz
altSecondaryNumber1Radio used for the alternative PHY: 1 = add-on radio (SX1261), 0 = main radio
altCmodeDurSecNumber0433 MHz C1/T1 listen duration in seconds (0–36000, 0 = do not collect)
altSmodeDurSecNumber0433 MHz S1 listen duration in seconds (0–36000, 0 = do not collect)
altXmodeDurSecNumber0433 MHz Sensus RF listen duration in seconds (0–36000, 0 = do not collect)

altPhy Parameter

Selects the OMS PHY for the alternative radio. The 433 MHz add-on is tuned for B (OMS Annex O, PHY_B, 433 MHz), which is the default. Other values accepted by the firmware (A = 868 MHz EU, D = 868 MHz RU, E = 865 MHz IN) do not match the add-on's RF front end and are not intended for this product.

Listen Durations

The 433 MHz listen phases run after the 868 MHz phases of the same cycle (cmodeDurSec, smodeDurSec, xmodeDurSec, umodeDurSec). Both bands are configured independently: set the 868 MHz durations to 0 to collect 433 MHz meters only, or keep both to read mixed installations in one cycle.

Each alt*DurSec parameter works like its 868 MHz counterpart (see *modeDurSec parameters). The 433 MHz durations add to the total cycle time, so the cycle duration constraint of TxDelay applies to the sum of all listen phases.

note

If all three alt*DurSec parameters are 0, the add-on radio stays off and the device behaves like a standard Gateway V4.

Limitations

  • Install mode (initial collection directly after reboot) is not supported for the 433 MHz band. The first 433 MHz collection happens with the first regular cycle.
  • The add-on radio is receive only. It collects meter telegrams at 433 MHz; the uplink to the backend (cellular or LoRaWAN) works exactly as on every other Gateway V4.
  • Telegrams received at 433 MHz are uploaded in the same formats as 868 MHz telegrams, see LoRaWAN Protocol and the cellular protocols.
