Gateway V4 + 433 MHz

Wireless M-Bus Gateway V4 with the 433 MHz add-on: reads 868 MHz and 433 MHz meters in one device.

Description

Gateway for remote reading of wireless M-Bus meters in the 868 MHz and 433 MHz band via NB-IoT, LTE-M or LoRaWAN. The 433 MHz add-on adds a second radio to the Gateway V4 for meters that transmit according to OMS Annex O (PHY_B, 433 MHz) or Sensus RF Bubble UP at 433 MHz. Suitable for indoor and weather-protected outdoor installation.

Features

All Gateway V4 Series platform features plus:

  • Second radio (Semtech SX1261) with its own 433 MHz antenna on the add-on board
  • Wireless M-Bus OMS Annex O, PHY_B (433 MHz), meter to gateway direction
  • Sensus RF Bubble UP 433 MHz
  • 868 MHz and 433 MHz listen phases in the same cycle, each with its own duration (cmodeDurSec / altCmodeDurSec etc.)
  • Telegrams from both bands are uploaded together via cellular network or LoRaWAN
433 MHz is receive only

The 433 MHz radio is used to receive meter telegrams only. The uplink to the backend (cellular or LoRaWAN) works exactly as on every other Gateway V4. Install mode (initial collection directly after reboot) is not available for 433 MHz; the first 433 MHz collection happens with the first regular cycle.

LED Signal Patterns

The device uses the standard V4 LED signal patterns. See LED Signal Patterns for the full reference.

Configuration

The device is shipped with default configuration parameters. Local changes can be made via the config port using the USB Config Adapter and the Lobaro Config Tool.

For step-by-step instructions, see the Configuration Methods guides:

tip

Custom factory configuration is available on request — devices can be pre-configured at production for your specific deployment. Contact sales@lobaro.de when ordering.

Configuration Parameters

This product runs the app-nrf91-origin firmware. To avoid duplication, the parameters are documented centrally with the firmware component and are not repeated here:

Typical configuration

To read 433 MHz meters, set at least one of the 433 MHz listen durations, e.g. altCmodeDurSec=300. The 868 MHz durations can stay at their defaults or be set to 0 if only 433 MHz meters are installed.

Firmware Updates

The latest firmware can be found here:

note

A remote firmware update over LoRaWAN is currently not possible.

Use the firmware variant hw4.altphy, e.g. app-nrf91-origin+0.15.0+hw4.altphy~boot.hex for a local update via USB or app-nrf91-origin+0.15.0+hw4.altphy.hex for a remote update. All Gateway V4 variants run the app-nrf91-origin firmware.

  • LoRaWAN Protocol: Status Packet (Port 1) and wM-Bus uplink formats. Telegrams received at 433 MHz use the same uplink formats as 868 MHz telegrams.

Cellular uplink uses CoAP (with the Lobaro IoT Platform) or MQTT for third-party integration. The protocol details are documented centrally with the firmware:

The CoAP implementation details are not publicly disclosed and are intended for use exclusively with the Lobaro IoT Platform. If MQTT is not an option, please contact Lobaro directly.

A production-ready parser for the uplinks of this device is implemented within the Lobaro Platform. It covers the wireless M-Bus telegrams (including split telegram reassembly where applicable, AES-128 decryption for encrypted telegrams, and OMS-compliant data interpretation) as well as the add-on data of the respective variant, for example Modbus responses or sensor values.

Customers using the Lobaro Platform can utilize this parser directly as part of the platform processing pipeline.

If you are operating a Lobaro Gateway without using the Lobaro Platform, we can provide restricted platform access upon request. This allows you to inspect the parser behavior and use it as a technical reference for your own backend implementation.

Please contact our support team if you require access or further integration details.
