Gateway V4 Series
The Gateway V4 is Lobaro's modular IoT gateway platform for remote meter reading and sensor data acquisition. All variants share the same hardware base and run the same firmware — the add-on board determines which additional sensors or bus systems are supported. The gateway is available with battery, 12 V DC, 230 V AC, or solar power supply, with internal or external antennas, and with SP13 connector or PG16 cable gland (see sections below).

Variants
Each variant extends the base Gateway V4 with an add-on for a specific use case. The Repeater is a special variant — it has no cloud connectivity and extends wM-Bus range instead of uploading data.

Platform Features
All Gateway V4 variants share the following base features:
- Wireless M-Bus (868 MHz, S1 / C1 / T1) and Sensus RF meter readout
- Compatible with Xylem Sensus RF Bubble Up (868 MHz)
- Compatible with Müller Funk (ME protocol, Walk-By) for µon and µflow skyW-2 and skyE-2
- wM-Bus data upload via NB-IoT or LTE-M mobile radio (2FF Mini-SIM or eSIM)
- Alternative upload via LoRaWAN 1.0.2 (EU-868)
- Uplink via CoAP/DTLS to Lobaro platform, or MQTT (LTE-M) to Lobaro platform or any third-party backend
- DTLS with client + server certificates (NB-IoT / LTE-M CoAP) · TLS 1.2 (MQTT)
- Internal memory for over 64,000 wM-Bus telegrams
- Whitelist for up to 2,000 individual meters
- Remote configuration
- Signed firmware updates (FOTA) via mobile radio
Antenna Options
By default all Gateway V4 variants have internal antennas for both cellular (LTE/NB-IoT) and wM-Bus / LoRaWAN. External antenna variants are available via SMA connector for installations with poor signal conditions (e.g. metal enclosures, basements).
| Type suffix | Variant code | Description |
|---|---|---|
| (default) | -X0 (implicit) | Internal antennas — LTE, wM-Bus and LoRaWAN all internal |
A1 | -X1 | 1× SMA — external LTE antenna (wM-Bus / LoRaWAN internal) |
A2 | -X2 | 1× SMA — external wM-Bus & LoRaWAN antenna (LTE internal) |
A3 | -X3 | 2× SMA — external LTE + external wM-Bus/LoRaWAN antenna |
A | -X4 | 1× SMA — shared external antenna for both LTE and wM-Bus |
Contact sales@lobaro.de for availability of antenna variants per add-on.
Cable / Connector Options
Variants with an external add-on connection (M-Bus, Modbus, Temperature, 4-20 mA, …) use a SP13 connector as standard. For installations requiring a permanent cable feed-through, a PG16 cable gland variant is available.
| Type suffix | Variant code | Description |
|---|---|---|
| (default) | -XXX0 (implicit) | SP13 connector (standard) |
PG | -XXX1 | PG16 cable gland (replaces SP13) |
Power Supply Options
The Gateway V4 is not exclusively battery-powered. All variants are available with different power supplies — firmware and functionality are identical; only the housing, connector, and ordering code differ.
The table below shows the power supply variants and their type/order code suffixes. Each add-on variant (M-Bus, Modbus, Temperature, …) uses the same suffix pattern on its own base order code — contact sales@lobaro.de for specific order codes.
| Power supply | Type suffix | Variant code | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battery (default) | — | -0 (implicit) | 2× D-cell 3.6 V, 38 Ah |
| 230 V AC | -230V | -1 | 230 V AC WAGO terminal block, PG16 cable entry |
| 12 V DC | -12V | -2 | 12 V DC power supply unit, DC barrel jack |
| Solar | -SUN | -3 | 2 W solar cell + backup battery, ideal for outdoor / frequent readings |
Common Accessories

Firmware
All Gateway V4 variants run app-nrf91-origin. The firmware is modular: the base handles wireless M-Bus reading and cellular / LoRaWAN uplink; add-on modules (Modbus, wired M-Bus, 1-Wire, …) are activated by the installed hardware and configuration.
The download above contains firmware for all Gateway V4 variants. Each individual product page links directly to the exact firmware variant for that product.
A remote firmware update over LoRaWAN is currently not possible.
Configuration Parameters
All Gateway V4 variants share the same firmware configuration. Parameters are documented centrally:
- Common firmware parameters — general, wireless M-Bus, LTE and LoRaWAN settings
Add-on variants extend these with additional parameters specific to the installed hardware. The relevant add-on parameters are linked on each individual product page.
